About Toka Tola

Toka Tola is an original group of characters created to showcase the rich cultural diversity of the British Virgin Islands (BVI). This team of five teenagers —Terafina, Kayden, Kunle, Princeton, and Chassidy— each come from different parts of the world, reflecting the BVI’s vibrant blend of nationalities and backgrounds. As a small yet globally connected territory, the BVI has become a melting pot of cultures, where people from all walks of life coexist, share traditions, and contribute to a unique, ever-evolving community. Toka Tola was born from the idea of celebrating this diversity, capturing the essence of the islands through characters whose origins span across the globe.

  • Terafina hails from Africa with roots in St.Lucia
  • Kayden’s family hails from Guyana
  • Kunle is from Tortola
  • Princeton is from Wales
  • Chassidy’s family hails from the Dominican Republic

The creation of Toka Tola was inspired by a desire to highlight the blend of backgrounds, traditions, and experiences that make the BVI a truly special place to call home. These characters serve as a reflection of the different identities and cultures that shape the island’s community, bringing a fresh perspective to storytelling and representation.

This is just the beginning. I plan to develop each character further, exploring their stories in greater depth and sharing them through various creative mediums. Future projects may include comic books, comic strips, animated shorts, and if all goes well; even a video game.

Stay tuned for more updates as Toka Tola continues to grow!
